Corning Inc. reached a 25-year agreement to purchase 62.5% of the expected electricity output from a solar farm that Duke Energy Corp. is constructing in North Carolina.

Financial details weren't provided.

Corning Chief Strategy Officer Jeffrey Evenson said in prepared remarks Monday that the move "encourages efficiencies and clean power usage that eventually lower costs."

The specialty-glass maker, based in Corning, N.Y., said its presence in North Carolina includes more than 3,000 employees across five locations. Under the agreement, Corning expects to purchase roughly 120,300 megawatt hours year, beginning in the first quarter of 2016.

According to Corning, the roughly 120,300 megawatt hours is enough to power about 10,000 U.S. homes.

Charlotte, N.C.-based Duke operates utilities that serve more than seven million customers in the Carolinas, Florida, Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.
