HPFS® and
Advanced Optics will be displayed this week at the Photonics West
Conference
CORNING, N.Y., February 16, 2016
- Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) today announced
progress toward broadening its HPFS® Fused Silica
glass supply capabilities and services to meet growing demand.
The market for fused silica glasses has been
primarily driven by semiconductor manufacturing and inspection
equipment. Increasingly, advanced materials -
including fused silica glasses - are
penetrating other applications where high-quality transmissive
optics are required. Those applications include consumer
electronics, energy research, laser optics, debris shields, glass
wafers for use in filters, sensing and packaging, advanced
integrated optical systems, and high-quality optical windows,
spanning from the deep ultraviolet through the infrared region.
Utilizing existing facilities, Corning
Incorporated will continue to grow its footprint in Asia for
Corning®
HPFS® Fused Silica
glasses to meet the optical industry demands for supply chain
support from both Asian-based customers and from customers whose
supply chains are based in Asia.
Corning has started to sell larger pieces of bulk
material as well as smaller, more value-added pieces such as rods,
smaller wafers, and lenses. Also, Corning recently started offering
other services such as polishing, coating, and supply-chain
management.
"We've identified real product and service
opportunities where we can add value to our customers beyond the
supply of materials," said David Velasquez, commercial director,
Corning Advanced Optics. "Leveraging the experience and
infrastructure of our existing finishing businesses, we've already
started growing our HPFS® Fused Silica
business in Asia by targeting a broad suite of products, shapes,
sizes, and advanced finishing services."
Corning will display its HPFS® Fused
Silica glasses and other Corning Advanced Optics innovations Feb.
16-18 at the Photonics West Conference in San Francisco,
California.
The company will provide further detail in
September on the progress of its expansion of High Purity Fused
Silica finishing capabilities in Asia at the 2016 China
International Optoelectronic Conference (CIOE) conference in
Shenzhen.
Corning®
HPFS® Fused Silica
glasses, manufactured in Canton, N.Y, are known for their
exceptional, consistent, repeatable performance. Product
characteristics include low-refractive index variations leading to
state-of-the-art homogeneity values, low birefringence values,
large-size capabilities, exceptional transmittance from the deep
ultraviolet through the near-infrared region, an ultra-low thermal
expansion coefficient, and high resistance to laser damage.
