Corning Partners with LG to Expand Automotive Interior Design Possibilities
07 Janeiro 2020 - 2:00PM
Corning Incorporated (NYSE: GLW) announced its collaboration with
LG Electronics Vehicle Component Solutions to industrialize
Corning® ColdForm™ Technology for curved automotive interior
display systems. This announcement comes as the industry navigates
new trends toward seamless connectivity with constant
synchronization of mobile devices, dashboards, and home information
and entertainment systems. Working together, the companies are
bringing more economical and high-quality curved display modules to
the automotive market.
“Interior displays are on the innovation frontline of automotive
design,” said Mike Kunigonis, vice president and general manager,
Corning Automotive Glass Solutions. “LG Electronics is one of the
industry leaders in cutting-edge vehicle components and
electronics. We are proud to collaborate on the development of
curved display modules, leveraging our ColdForm Technology and
supporting LG’s commercialization effort through technology
transfer, advanced glass solutions, and system-level reliability
testing services. Together we’re creating a new economical and
innovative solution to deliver the next generation of curved
automotive interior designs.”
The display evolution in automotive interiors mirrors that of
consumer electronics with users demanding larger, curved, and
more immersive display designs. Corning’s patented ColdForm
Technology provides a cost-effective processing solution versus
conventional hot-formed methods while sustaining exceptional
optical performance and Corning’s signature durability with
AutoGrade™ Gorilla Glass.
“Today the desire for more in-vehicle connectivity is driving an
acceleration of auto interior design and the need to adopt
innovative products and processes,” said J.Y. Kim, executive vice
president and general manager of LG Electronics Vehicle Component
Solutions. “At LG, we have always been proud to enable the latest
automotive industry trends, which is why we’re working with Corning
to industrialize their ColdForm Technology. With this technology,
we can economically deliver the larger, curved, dual-display
automotive interior display modules consumers and automakers
demand.”
