Astria(R) Content Processor's Unique Transcoding Capability
Accelerates Transition to Next Generation Compression Technologies
LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., Nov. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Tut Systems
Inc. (NASDAQ:TUTS), an industry leader enabling the delivery of
next-generation data and video services over broadband networks,
today announced that its Astria(R) content processor (CP) video
headend solution can now be leveraged by customers to convert
MPEG-2 stored on-demand content to the latest MPEG-4 AVC
compression technology. Today, the vast majority of video on-demand
content is delivered to service providers in the MPEG-2 format. For
service providers deploying services based on the bandwidth
efficient MPEG-4 AVC compression technologies, a bridge is needed
to convert content to the new compression standard. As proven at
Tut Systems' landmark MPEG-4 AVC customer, Cavalier Telephone, the
Astria CP now delivers this functionality in a cost-effective and
efficient manner with minimal impact on the service provider's
operations. "As part of the next phase of our partnership with Tut
Systems, we challenged them to solve a fundamental problem we were
having with gaining access to on-demand content that we could
deliver at bandwidths optimized for our ADSL2+ network while still
meeting the stringent quality standards of content owners," said
Phil Davis, Director of IPTV for Cavalier Telephone. "The advanced
transcoding capability of the Astria CP delivered an exceptional
solution for us with equipment that we already use today in our
core headend operations." "Tut Systems believes that innovation in
the IPTV market can only be achieved through a close relationship
with our customers," said Bob Noonan, Vice President of Sales,
Marketing, and Customer Service for Tut Systems. "We appreciate
Cavalier Telephone's laser-like focus on identifying opportunities
for innovation that will directly benefit their IPTV subscribers."
