Cook to help guide Dow Corning's rapid customer-driven growth in Asia MIDLAND, Mich., July 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Corning Corporation has appointed Tom Cook as Asia area vice president, a newly created position that reflects Dow Corning's priority to further development capabilities to serve customers throughout Asia, Dow Corning's fastest growing geographic market. Cook will remain based in Tokyo, Japan, where he has worked for the past two years. In addition to his position as global executive director for the electronics and advanced technologies industries, Cook's new responsibilities include leading Dow Corning's Asia Area Council and sharing management responsibilities for the company's media, government and local employee relations across Asia. Dow Corning is continuing to develop a world-class silicone industry in Asia and has senior management, local manufacturing and R&D operations in Japan, China, Taiwan and South Korea. Establishing a reliable silicone supply in Asia is critical to the region's development of key industries including electronics, automotive, energy and infrastructural development/construction. Under Cook's leadership since June 2002, the company's electronics business has grown nearly 60 percent. Dow Corning continues to successfully expand its electronics business and to pursue new market opportunities. The company's global presence is a key attribute, enabling Dow Corning to understand local needs and coordinate solutions for its global customer base. Since joining Dow Corning in 1985 as a computer programmer, Cook has held various positions in information technology, sales, marketing and customer services. Cook assumed his current position in 2002. He has been instrumental in several company-wide initiatives, including a leadership role in the development of the corporate strategy that transformed the company from a product-focused supplier into a solution provider. He also was one of the leaders of the initiative that created the strategy for the highly successful Xiameter(R) brand offering, a web-based business model designed to service customers in mature silicone segments that require access to high-quality products, but do not desire extra service and support. Cook is a board member of Hemlock Semiconductor Corporation, a Dow Corning joint venture that produces high-purity polycrystalline silicon for the electronics and solar industries.
